Week 3 EOC Where are you now and where are you going?

Currently I am a student at the Art Institute of Las Vegas in the process of getting my bachelor's degree in photography. I own my own place which is a condominium living with my boyfriend and our son. Working at Pizza Hut as a cashier right now to pay for the bills that I have at the moment. Staying at my current job for the time being because school is my priority and my boss understands that so my schedule is worked around for scool. When done with school or at least close to being done I plan on getting a job in the photography business either if it be as an assistant for a photographer or working at a photo place like at JCPenny's or something like that. While working in the field I will be a freelancer on the side to get my name out there by introducing myself to people. Also when working in one of the photography jobs I will be saving up money to help get a business of my own. When getting more experience and work from clients I plan to have my own business. Possibly have this business with a friend of mine who is in the same field. Be a business that shoots anything from family portraits, models who want to build a portfolio, to advertising products for companies. Even would like to be a top fashion photographer where I get to work with models and be part of the fashion industry. A few years after graduating and working in the field of photography I plan to be a successful photographer.

Crime Scene

This is a crime scene where a young woman was strangled to death with barbed wire in her own backyard. She struggled for her life and fought back as much as possible but just couldn't stop her attacker from finally finsihing her off. Now I got my idea from watching the many television shows that are on tv about crime scenes and solving murder cases. My model is playing the dead victim and I put fake barbed wire around her neck and wrists to show that she was tied up and strangled with it. She did her make up to look like she had been dead by putting white powder on her face and purplish brown colors of eyeshadow around her eyes and neck. The location of the shoot was in my mother's backyard on the patio. We put fake blood on her neck and on the ground to show the barbed wire had cut into her skin. Also there is fake broken glass on the ground to show that a window was broken in the process of the struggle between her and the killer. I did some editing on Photoshop by changing the colors and other things. When I first was editing the photo I was going to make it a black and white image but the colors such as the blood and the model's hair seem to give it a better feel to get a murder from the photo. The model's hair with a streak of turquoise and the blood are great contrast colors sinc ethey are opposites of each other. So I decided to have the photo be desaturated to about 70% so that a hint of the colors were still visible in the image. Also I went up on the contrast about 50%. The black vignette around the model was from the camera flash not done in Photoshop. The time of day that I shot was around 7pm and I used my Olympus E-420 camera with an on camera flash.

Week 2 EOC Sacrifices Willing to Make

To get farther along in the photography business there are sacrifices that need to be made. If ever I was offered an opportunity to go photograph something anywhere and anytime my job would not be a concern. Calling off and not going into work is something I would do to move my career in photography along. I would even quit my job to do anything in the photography business. So that I could get more knowledge and connections in the field and start building relationships with others. The more you get your name out to people the possibility of opportunities coming your way. Traveling somewhere I would be willing to take but only if my family came with me. If it is something here or pretty close by I would do it as long as someone is available to watch my son. There really isn't anything that would stop me from doing an opportunity. For right now the only problem with doing anything is not having a vehicle so if anything were to appear I would need transportation to wherever the location was.

Self

A photo containing many rubber duck toys that are all similar except for one. Being unique and having stuff different from others is who I like to be. At first I had a bit of a hard time trying to decide on what to shoot for something to represent myself. Then someone gave me an idea to shoot a bouquet of flowers that are all the same color and have one be a different color. That seemed like a great idea but flowers just didn’t read me because I am not a big fan of flowers. So then I thought what if I did rubber duck toys because for one I like ducks they are one of my favorite animals and two I’m still a child inside and out. Still watch cartoons and play with toys is stuff I enjoy doing. So I put a few ducks together that were all the same and then had one that was different from all the rest. The different duck in the pack is to represent me being an individual from others around me. To do the shot I did it at my condo with window lighting around the time of three in the afternoon. For the background I used a black blanket that I had laid on the couch and hang down to the floor. I used my Olympus E-420 camera with the lens that came with the camera.

Week 1 EOC Haute Couture

Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Elie Saab, and many others are companies that sell and create high fashion clothing and accessories. Haute Couture is a bit expensive in price but has great quality to the products. The clothing can be very nice and comfortable to wear compared to cheaper styles of clothing. Some photographers who are in the fashion industry photographing the clothing and products from companies are Richard Warren, Mark Delong, and many others. Advertisements for haute couture stuff just makes mostly anyone want to go out and purchase the items. These kinds of businesses do know how to advertise their material and also are prepared for the changes in clothing whether they expect it or not. "You not only must plan for what you expect, but you must establish responses to unexpected events and responses to those responses, and so on, and so on." (Best Business Practices for Photographers Second Edition, John Harrington, page 8). Clothing in this category of high fashion look very nice but there just seems to be no need to pay that much for a piece of clothing or accessory when you can save so much more on stuff that is similar to that same thing. When purchasing from high fashion companies you do pay what you got. The quality of the item that is purchased is worth what it is being sold for.

Week 1 EOC My Voice

While I was younger I have always enjoyed taking pictures while on vacations with family. It wasn’t until a friend of mine showed me what photography was and let me use the camera she had. That’s when I found out that photography was the career I wanted to pursue in. In about a year I will have my Bachelors degree in digital photography. The fashion or editorial part of photography is what I am more interested in though I’m not stuck to just one category of photographs. I have taken photos of landscapes to portraits from fashion/editorial shots and other types of photographs. My goal one day is to own my own business in creating stunning photographs for any occasion, person, or company. Creating a unique beautiful photograph that people will remember and enjoy is what I want to accomplish in every image that I shoot. In the photos I want a story to be told whether it is a happy/funny one or depressing/hurtful one. Even with a good amount of knowledge on the field of photography there is still a whole lot more to understand and know about creating that perfect photograph.
