Week 6 EOC Ron Galella & 1st Amendment

Ron Galella is a very famous paparazzi photographer who has taken some of the most famous photos of popular icons such as Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassi. He went to great lengths to always capture the perfect image from any celebrity that he was shooting. During his career he has been sued, punched in the face, and beaten for taking these photos of people who didn't like it. Many would say that he went against the first amendment of the constitution which protects the freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly. Yes he does go against this amendment because he shoots people who don't want him taking their photos but he is doing his job which helps keep a roof over his head and food on the table. An important part for most photographers to do before doing photo shoots with people is to have them sign a model release form that says the usages of the images and who has what rights for the photos. No matter what kind of assignment your shooting having a form signed is important. "For shoots where we are seeing the subjects for the first time as we are setting up lights, I usually task an assistant to secure the signing of the model release by the subject. This is almost always the case for editorial shoots, street photography, or low-production-level shoots." (Best Business Practices for Photographers 2nd Edition, John Harrington, page 351). Ron Galella has been to court a couple or few times because of people he has shot such as Marlon Brando, who punched him in the jaw. Galella went to court with him just to show that he should not have to get punched for doing his job and the case didn't go completely through because Brando just paid him some money to drop the case. "And, at any point during the trial, up to the moment before the jury has reached a verdict, both parties can come to settleent terms and the case ends up being dismissed." (Best Business Practices for Photographers, John Harrington, page 359). Being part of the paparazzi world can be a bit different. Especially when someone you are trying to shoot does not want their photo taken. Just like with Ron Galella and Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassi how he had tried for a long time to get a great photo of her and he finally did with her walking on the street with her looking towards the camera with her hair in her face from the wind blowing. I think that photographers who are part of the paparazzi do go against the first amendment just because they invade peoples privacy. The paparazzi is doing their by capturing famous people in activities that they do during their daily lives. I think most celebrities don't do much about the paparazzi taking their photos, as long as it is something that won't affect their career, is because it helps get their names out there more. The paparazzi is taking photos that help promote them and get their names out there more to get known.

Painting with Light

Painting with light is such a fun way to shoot with a camera. This kind of photography is a great way in trying to create abstract forms of light where people may not know exactly what it is. You can create an image with just using different kinds of lights and making a light painting. With whatever light that you use to create your image can be of words that you write or of pictures like a heart and other stuff. When I get the chance to do this kind of photo, I enjoy it and get very excited to shoot this kind of image. By doing this I set my Olympus E-420 camera up on a tripod in a dark room, with no kind of light coming through, having the camera pointing towards a wall and a wall that had a window on it with blinds while having the blinds closed. To create the blue light, I used a pen that had a laser point and blue light put into the pen in it. The shutter speed I had my camera set to was BULB with an f-stop 5.6. The first of my photos I took I had my camera shooting towards a wall in a dark room writing words and making designs with the laser point and blue light. I was writing my son's name in the laser point and then I was making dots with the blue light and tracing the outside of the blue circles with the laser point light. I had tried many different ideas but didn't like them a whole lot. Then while I was shooting I saw my blinds moving slightly due to the fan being on. So then I thought it would be cool to shoot those with making designs on the blinds with the two lights I had been using. The photo I choose was one when I was shooting towards the blinds and then used the blue light to make it look like lights on the blinds. I like how the blue light on each blind makes it look like it is a light pole on them with the light shining down. The photo looks like it could be of a street with the light poles on the side of the road during the night time.

Week 5 EOC Midterm

So far this class has giving me tons of information and on how to get started on running my own business and know what I need to be successful. Also that getting out there and meeting people and to start networking will help get a start in the business. With being half way done with this class so far has giving me lots of important things about how to get started in building a business. Having the other half to come I know that there is more to come to learn and important information that will help in the long run of having and running my own business. I’m glad to be in this class and learning all this stuff to help me when it comes time for me to start my own business. Everything that I have learned so far has me thinking more about starting a business than I was before. Also has open my eyes more to all the aspects in creating a business so I am very glad for taking this class. Everyday since class has started I have shown up to class on time and been here. So far I think I am doing fine in the class with have done every assignment so far. For my participation isn’t a 100 percent because I'm not one to speak in class but I am here listening to what is said during class. Also did miss two days in a row for my tweets so that isn’t perfect. For a couple of assignments I was late in posting and turning in.

Wedding

Weddings are meant to be a special day for the man and woman who are getting together to spend the rest of their life together. The day is most special to the bride because it is her day to shine. The bride on that day is the one who needs to be happy otherwise nothing and no one will be having a good time. The day of a wedding is showing that two lovers are getting together and becoming one with having families come together, money, and other stuff in some cases. So I used my mother's cake topper that she still had from the wedding of when her and my dad got married. She still had it up in the attic along with other items from the wedding but I went with the cake topper. The reason is because it has two birds with a ring. A wedding has all to do with two people coming together with their families and lives and become connected with the ring that they both put on each others finger. When thinking of a wedding I think of two people or two of anything representing the two becoming as a whole. The cake topper helps show this because the two doves are the people getting together and are being brought together by the ring they each hold. I did the shoot indoors with a floor lamp that had the energy saving light bulbs which I think are the daylight ones. The lights are a pure white or blue color when on instead of shing that yellow color. The background is a white sheet that had light gray stripes on it and used an open aperture with an f-stop of 3.5 to 5.6. I had to set my camera on a tripod so the photo would be clear and not blurry because I had to use a low shutter speed. For the shoot I used my Olympus E-420 camera with the original lens that the camera came with.

http://www.richardbrian.com/index.html
Richard Brian is a photographer located here in Las Vegas. He has had stuff published in small community newspapers and in People magazine. He is a successful photographer by working as a sports editor, staff, and contributing photographer. Also has a studio that is called Shutter Addicts Studios that is open for photographers to rent and use. The website shows some of the stuff he has shot but I don't think that he has everything up. The only photos that he has up on his website are photos he took at night. I think that he should have more of a variety in his portfolio. The website I think is more of a glamor site to help get him out there and know by others.

EOC Week 4 Scary Legal Issues

When being a photographer and having your own business or even any kind of business, can come only with some legal issues that are a bit terrifying to have happen. A huge important thing that any photographer should have to protect themselves and even their family from legal issues, is insurance. Not just kind of insurance but many that will help protect you from legal issues from your mistakes or clients. Insurance that is important to have now to help if anything was to happen to you is health, life, and disability. Having these insurances will help protect you and your family when something is to happen to you. "I worry about an eye infection should I switch from glasses to contacts and I worry about other risks to my hands, knees, and mobility-all cornerstones of being a mobilized and active photographer. Although I have these worries, they don't overwhelm me because I know that should something go wrong, I will be protected and my family will, too" (Best Business Practices for Photographers 2nd edition, john harrington, page 119). Another insurance you should have is business insurance which means you need insurance on your camera, office, and liability insurance. "If you are doing events of this nature at large hotels and palatial estates, having the right insurance will ensure that you don't get disqualified just because you didn't have insurance." (Best Business Practices for Photographers 2nd edition, John Harrington, page 124). Another issues that you don't want to happen is the IRS to audited you. That will usually happen when you have a business and your not making any profit for a few years. They think that a business can't be around and open without making some profit for some years maybe the first year is fine but not after that. Another reason for them IRS wanting to examine you on your taxes is because they believe that there is more money for you to pay them. "A wedding photographer who deposits a bride's check in his personal banking account or tries to skirt that deposit by going to the bank the bride's check was drawn on, cashing the check, and then depositing the cash will be found out very quickly after just one or two of these cash deposits." (Best Business Practices for Photographers 2nd Edition, John Harrington, page 163). One other thing that would be a bad legal issue is having a client come to sue you because the product that they received did not meet their standards of what they were expecting. Lets say that you are still an amateur and not the best and a client hires your to shoot something like a wedding. Best to let them know that the photos are not going to look like a professional who has experience in the field. So that when they are upset about that photos you already let them know so that they are blind sided about what they were expecting.

Sport/Action

Playing any sport or being involved in outdoor activities is always fun to do when you want to get out of the house. When being part of these activities there are rules on how the game or sport is to be played. Also there is some kind of court that needs to be designed or in place to know where not to go and so you don't go out of bounds. Going outside in your own backyard or in the front on the yard or in the street always have been more fun to me. To be able to play an activity where you don't need to follow some kind of set rules is more fun to me. This is because I like doing what I want and being able to go where I want and what I want to do while playing the game and/or sport. Though I never like being unfair during this activites. So I decided to capture someone playing some kind of game or sport that I enjoy, such as tennis, with not actually playing how it should be played but just hitting it around for fun and having a great time while doing the activity. That is how I have always enjoyed playing any kind of sport or activity. The model who is the one playing with the tennis ball and racket is my boyfriend. I had him throw the ball up and try to hit it to capture him hitting the ball around for fun and playing the sport freestyle. The location is over at his parent's house in their backyard and around the day I had taken this photo was on a cloudy day before it rained and was taking around five in the late afternoon. Using my Olympus E-420 camera with the one lens I have and just used the natural light of outside from the sun for my light source.
